Bent frame
 

My 1986 Yamaha 1VJ Tenere has a bent rear frame from a previous owners rear end shunt. Not too severe - the rear guard is approx 30mm to the left and it doesn't seem to affect the handling but on full bump the tyre rubs on the silencer. I knew about it when I bought the bike - good haggling point! Looking at the cracked paint, it seems to have moved over above the swing arm pivot.
Having said all that I'd really like it straight! A quick Google has pointed me at a various Motoliner shops, with the one in Maidstone getting a good press. Looks like it could cost a fair amount though - £75 to get it checked, plus labour for the actual work. I could get another (hopefully straight!) frame for less than that but would ideally prefer to retain the identity of my bike: just been on a great trip round Morocco and am getting attached to it!
Anyone got experience of having a frame sorted and/or know of anyone that can do the work in Bristol/Salisbury/South?

I wouldnt get so hung up on the identify of the bike.... It's not difficult or expensive to get your frame number changed on your document.

Your "emotional" bond will soon fade the frame burns through your tyre :innocent:

As you said, the bike's been in a shunt. Have you inspected the frame thoroughly for cracks, stresses ? 30mm is quite a movement on a steel frame.

Get yourself a replacement frame... It's the sensible thing to do.

Scour ebay etc for a frame or "spares or repair" bikes that you could take the frame and sell off the other bits to recoup your losses

to be honest, before you go committing to another frame or any big expense I'd be looking to borrow some gas bottles and heat up the frame and try straighten it.
I've done it before with various dt/tsx frames and you've nothing to lose really.
