Airfilter oil alternative
 

Hello,

I did a service on my bike (klx250) and I can't find any oil for the airfilter in Lahore (Pakistan). I already asked a few mechanics and they told me to use normal Motoroil like 20w50. Do you have any advices, how to do it or any alternative. I already searched for that, but I did not find any good solution.

engine oil will do the job, Ive used it before in South America, the main difference is the engine oil does not have the 'stickiness' that proper filter oil has, so it tends to run to the bottom of the air filter and leaves most of the filter dry - especially in a hot dry climate.

use any (clean) oil you have left over from changing the oil on your bike - the grade does not matter - but clean and re oil the filter more often, If you can find them a filter skin fitted over the air filter will help too.

Engine oil is fine, it is recommended by many factory service manuals for older bikes, and I haven't seen that the foam is much different.

I noticed that older factory service manuals would recommend regular oil for maintenance (cable lubrication, filter oiling, chain lubrication, etc...) rather than the array of specialized products they now sell. When I am travelling long term I use the liter of engine oil I'm carrying anyway for everything maintenance related.

I always use 2 stroke oil. Its pretty sticky and comes in handy small bottles. Don't forget to grease the inside of your air box (collects some dust) and where the filter meets the air box for a tip top seal.

Well my thread is already a bit older but anyway thanks for the advise. I am already back in Germany. I used all along my journey the engine oil then for the air filter.
It worked out, engine (klx250s, 60k) is still running ;) :scooter:
