120/90-17 Heavy Duty Inner Tubes
Hi,
Do 120/90-17 Heavy Duty Inner Tubes actually exist ? Im in the UK, please could someone attach a link where I can buy one of these. Thanks |
Try this link, 4mm should be heavy enough.
|
Huan, you got me going in a loop. I click on the link and go back this message doh.
Thanks for the reply though, please reattach. Cheers |
Yeah, they definitely do exist but are hard to find. Reason is apparently that 17" is a tyre size for road bikes and road bikes seldom need heavy duty (that's what the guys in the shop told me). The only place where I found and recently bought one is on ebay, so have a look there for 'Heavy Duty Tubes'.
|
Fixed the link.
I wouldn't agree with the guys in that shop, some offroad bikes have had 17" rears since the mid-80s or before. You could always get heavy duty tubes in 17" but not all shops have them or know how to get them. |
Yeah, I heard the same story from the chaps Ive called.
Ive checked out ebay etc.. using a many different strings. Good to know its a common issue though and not just me missing something. Ill resume the hunt, however if anyone knows a site I can get these, please be so kind :thumbup1:. |
Check the link above ^^ I fixed it to show the correct site.

Ever had a close look at the wheels on a postie bike Marco? |
Huan, just called them.
They only have the 1.5mm in the necessary size, but thanks. http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/MySchlauch.pl .....and so the search continues |
They have a 2.5-3mm version for a 130/70 -17
I can't believe that it would be that different from a 120/90 -17 tube Brand: Heidenau Item code no.: 17F Cr. EAN: 4027694230298 Type of valve: 34 G Centered metal valve Tube type: Cross tube Wall thickness: ca. 2.5 - 3 mm S-11230029 only £ 23.10 |

I found the old ebay listing where I bought my tube from (link), they sell it for AU$23. |
Cheers guys !
2 questions.... - Will 130/70-17 fit a 120/90-17 tyre safely ? - Marco, do you recommend those inner tubes ? (Ive emailed the chaps in Aus to see if they will ship to the UK) |

Iv used kinds of crazy sizes and never had an issue.. Sometimes you just have to use what you can find while on the road. You can use 18" in a 17" tyre too but only do it if you have to.. |
You can use a 21" tube in a rear if you have to as well!
How different can it be? 70% of 130mm isn't all that different from 90% of 120mm. Certainly not enough to worry about. Ever inflated an innertube without a tyre? See how much they expand? |
As BikingMarco said the Suzuki DR650 uses a 17" rear still.
As long as you fit the tube evenly ie no folds in the rubber you can use a bigger tube, no probs. |
Perfect, thanks for all the info, Ill buy it.
:scooter: |
If you are going travelling I would buy a couple, a spare is always handy.
|
I am riding from the UK to South Africa.
I was going to fit the Heavy Duty inners before I left, take my existing normal tubes as spares and then 2x punchture repair kits. ? |
I wouldn't bring 2nd hand tubes, get 4 new x HD tubes and Puncture kits.
If you are getting punctured then you might as well fit another HD tube instead of a lightweight one which may get a puncture more easily. Keep the old tubes for when you get back to civilisation. |

HD innertubes.
|
Thanks guys.
Ive bought 2 pairs of HD tubes. Fitted the front wheel tube last night....was a swine.....punctured the standard tube I was removing, fitted the HD ok after some swearing and wishing I had smaller hands and wishing HD tubes were thinner. NOT looking forward to changing my tyres from road to offroad once I hit the dirt tracks......fingers crossed I dont nip a hole in the HD trying to get the tyre off. Anyway, only 2nd time Ive removed a wheel and tyre.......still learning :innocent: |
Tube fitting.
Check out the motion pro T6 tyre levers!
The one model has a small lip on the end that stops it slipping in use and is a revelation to use. The best I have used BY FAR! They have a built in ring spanner at the other end. Just choose the size for your wheel nut. Soapy water helps too. Dave. |
