xf650 freewind carb alternative
 

I have recently picked up a 1997 xf650 freewind which needs some odd bits sorting and a a few replacements for broken or badly bodged parts. But one major headache is the lump of silicone spread on the right side twin carb.

It has Mikuni BSR 32 twin setup which is running ok at the moment. But apparently the silicon covers a crack in the body of the carb which aint going to get better with time. At some point I will need to replace it. I have looked around for a twin set but they a not too plentiful and are very expensive.

I wonder if anyone has fitted any other twin set to their xf650?.

Looking around on the internet there are not many used carbs around, could you use an adaptor plate and change the carb to a(DR650) BST40 or TM40? - you would then have a lot more options.


some of the old Suzuki GS bikes used Mikuni BS carbs I believe, maybe find other bikes with same carb and look on Ebay and scrap yards, also is there a Freewind specific forum where you may be able to pick up parts?

There is a CCM 644 SM on ebay breaking for parts. Same motor as the Freewind. I had his engine but not the carbs - he may still have them... good luck
