Storage for 650 V-Strom

Just wondering if anyone has figured out a way to install a narrow storage box to fit the wasted space on the the opposite side of the muffler on the V-strom 650. I was thinking of building an aluminium box that mounts to the inside of the side rack - anyone out there ever tried it? All comments appreciated - thanks,

A fair few people have mounted a tool tube in that spot. It can be pretty basic, roughly same size as your muffler, you can buy one online or make your own out of plumbing pipe. Here's one example but you can see a few different examples but googling for images.

Just been looking at that gap my self today. I thought of sticking a tool tube in there, reckoning the spanners etc would weigh about the same as the exhaust. But yes a box of some sort might be good too. I did think of extra fuel but dropped that idea in favour of drinking water then dropped that too. Hardly going to run short of either around the places I'm going this year ! Be interested to see any ideas.

Been using that space for spare parts for ages, plus the space under that and the exhaust pipe as well

Same idea here https://sites.google.com/site/poorat...i/platey-thing

The Wee has loads of space under the seat and with bags on the engine bars the https://sites.google.com/site/poorat...he-green-range I actually struggle to find anything light and the right shape to go in there. I think the current contents are the chain lube and brush, a spare cargo strap and a builders sack to keep the seat dry if parked in the rain.
