Hi there, girls might take time making up their minds, but at least its concrete.
Hi, I hear you can't find what you're looking for in the UK, I'm from SA, I live in France and our choice of bike is very varied. It must have to do with the population and land to cover, plenty of bikes to choose from. I've sent you a link already situated on the DR, its in French but you might find your diamond in the rough that you're looking for. Good luck

I'm 5ft 11in - so height is not a problem. Maybe when I turn 40, I'll change to a V-strom. |
Which Bike Shall I use Today ?
The worst thing for a biker is trying to find the right bike for the right moment which means you need about six different bikes to do the different things you want to do.
I wanted a bike mainly for road but would do light trails and had enough go in it to keep me happy. My previous bike was a 1500 Goldwing so the V-Strom feels very light to me and represents the best compromise. Good luck with your search. Cheers Ian:thumbup1: |

Hi Impasto,
We met 2 Japanese girls doing Cape Town to where ever they might end up. They were both on Suzuki Jebels 250. Don't know if that is the same engine as an DR but they performed wonderfully, no troubles at all. In the soft sand you will curse every excess kilo. These bikes were new though. I know one of the girls made it to Sri Lanka without problems! I guess it is not the size of the machine that counts but the state that its in! exploreafrica.web-log.nl: 26-Soedan Cheers Noel exploreafrica.web-log.nl |

"Once a girl makes up her mind" - you had me going there for a while; I nearly believed it!! :rolleyes2: Still, choosing the bike is half of the fun. |
Don't embarass me even more!
I knooooow WALKABOUT... I really think I have made up my mind... but people keep confusing me with good ideas!
I will be buying in the next month. So hold your breath! |
The 250 market is full of really good bikes and honestly the DR Dejebl is one of the best as for enough omph they will do 80mph but can struggle on uphills. the engine is a double overhead head with bucket and shims which means valve gap checks every 30000 miles basically maintenance free. also the engine is a air cooled lump.
Way better choice than a DR650. |

Well then, if you are looking toward the 250cc segment (sounds like a salesman!), how about:- http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-or-ugly-32142 (Still in production and on sale in the UK). There are other threads on the same lines i.e. about the merits of 250cc (or less). |
I found the solution!
Ok - its a compromise - but at LEAST I wont pine whilst I'm leaving the Dakar at home!
What do you think?? http://www.d-z.co.uk/meine_xt.jpg |
Have you considered one of these?
