Lowering a DRZ250

I've been told that my, new (to me) '02 DRZ250 has two different positions that the rear shock can be mounted in, allowing for a higher/lower seat height, giving a difference of around 1" to 1.5" at the seat.

For the life of me I can't see where there are any alternate mounting points on my bike. Have I been given a bum steer, or is it possible to lower the bike?

I have never heard of that, only replace the suspension links ("dog bones") to lower it.

Let the front forks up as far as you can until the tubes meet the handlebars, if you have not already done that. Usually that will give you a couple of centimeters at the seat. Then there is the cutting into the seat foam option which is easy to do. Probably all things you already know about....
