IMS fuel tank queries.

I have an IMS fuel tank on my DR650 SE but there are two things that are bothering me, so i wonder if anyone can help :D

1. Firstly the breather hose/overflow that connects to the cap keeps coming of and is generally annoying, can i replace it with something else, i guess whatever i do i dont what bits entering the the tank and clogging things up.

2. The fuel valve leaks when i turn it to reserve, anyone know where can i get a suitable replacement. Ive heard pinglel make one, they have so many on their site which one do ppl use on there ims.

Cheers, Stephen

Have you tried one of these & zip tie the bottom end to the fuel cap.

Are you using the IMS petcock? How full is the tank when turning to the petcock to reserve?
I changed to a pingel and haven't had any issues.

I ziptied a random, suitably sized buit of plastic hose to the brether nipple. Handy in that I could take it off whenever I removed the cap, but it did get a bit hard after several months.

As for the tap, I used the standard DR650 tap. I had to file out the hole in the tank slightly, and it means you only get 30-40km on reserve, but otherwise works well, and I like having it vacuum operated.

I'd get a locking filler cap. Main reason for this was having mine stolen off my 20L IMS tank and they then though it would be a good idea to drop stuff into the tank. Not particularly helpful when you're on the back roads of Pakistan but there you go. Had my breather pipe pinched in India too so I'd just stick with the cheap plastic lines and carry a spare rather than buying the expensive one.

I did find a locking cap that fitted the IMS tank but don't recall the make. Only about £20-30 I'd guess.

Did you fit the tap correctly?? Never had any leaks on mine but then the tap itself really is a flimsy piece of crap, however it did the job.

Thanks for the replies. A locking fuel cap sounds like a good idea, i will try and find one. Any suggestions for stockists in the UK that sell such things - fuel taps too.

The bike came with the tank fitted so i don't have the original valve. The valve does seem quite flimsy i think maybe i should just take it apart and replace the seals that have probably worn out.

Those pingel taps look good but i don't know if i can buy one in the uk and they seem expensive too! are there any cheaper alternatives?

Stephen.
