DRZ 400e loud
 

I have DRZ400e which I find a bit loud it has the standard spark arrestor. I feel riding into a small village will let everyone know you have arrived not quite what I want. Has anyone done anything to there bike to keep the noise down. Has any one used muffler packing or know if the DRZ has muffler packing at all.
Any ideas would be great.

I have an FMF Q pipe on mine and whilst it isn't exactly quiet, it's acceptable. My mate has an "S" tailpipe on his and it's quieter but robs a bit of the top end. I have a scorpion on my S and that's fine with the "road legal" baffle fitted.

The Suzuki oem pipe is too loud/not permitted for enduro races in the UK! Anything afternmarket will be quieter. FWIW, my DRZe has a Per4mance pipe (I think that's what it said on the badge (before it fell off!). It also weighs about 3 kgs less than oem.

If your after quiet go for the S pipe, you dont seem to be someone who would want to scream around anywhere anyway. I have a UK S pipe fitted to an E engine/FCR carb sat in an S frame, and its pretty quiet, as I am lucky enough to live in Cornwall, and can chose to do green lanes on the way home, and dont want to annoy people by being noisy, stealthy ride, I am not in a race! Yes it is restrictive above 70, but where are you riding and how fast. Only thing to be aware of is the extra heat generated by restricting the hot gasses, make sure you put extra heat material under the rear plastic panel. Or do what i did and put a strong back bar to keep the panel off the exhast if using throwovers, it will melt and damage the panniers if it sags. oh and it adds a few pounds to the higher weight of the bike. but again if its a steady ride your style is then it wont be a problem. Get a cheap second hand one off ebay and try it out. Get to some local meets, the DRZ is everywhere, and listen to what sounds best for you. Good Luck

I took the end off mine and stuck some silencer packing in there - packed it round the outside so there was still a path straight through, but smaller. Seemed to work (well, I never got kicked out of any enduros I entered) and didn't notice too much performance loss.

Not sure if they are still available but when I had a DRZe I fitted a CRD silencer, the Absolute Performance version. It used both a mechanical baffle and fibreglass wadding to absorb the sound and was fairly quiet without restricting power.
