DR 650 cam bearings
Hi, i have bought a kick start model DR 650, on opening the engine i have found alot of problems, the first being where the cam runs in the head has a small amount of scoring, could any one tell me of an engineering company that can line bore and fit bronze shell bearings preferable south coast uk.
Has any one tried or done this to their DR? The second being the transmission gears have severe wear to the hardening would the gears from a later CCM 644 electric start fit my kick start model? Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated. I think Suzuki had shares in Cadburys during the early ninetys as the cam lobes and rockers also seem to be made of chocolate. Thanks Jim:helpsmilie: |

Hi Ted, Mileage is 30,000

The dr350 suffers the same problems with wear-quick cylinder heads. But it's normally down to the bike being run on low oil at some point:oops2: I would add that they seem to suffer more than most road bikes I've seen with similar sohc heads when ran on low oil.
I have an old head I got with a spares bike that has been repaired like this. One of the journals in the head bored out a little, and then drilled+tapped to take a grub screw which helps locate the bushing and keep it in place. No idea how well it worked though - The bushing is scored but it looks like the person who did it reused the cam which presumably had some scoring to the bearing surfaces. |
