1990 DR800 (SR42) Output shaft bearing, seal and retainer
 

Hi everyone,

The output shaft seal on my 1990 DR800 is leaking and so I'm getting ready to replace it in a few weeks. I've decided to do the bearing as well as the bike has got 88,000+ kms on it and given the lost cost of the bearing, why not?

Well I guess one reason is that I don't know if it can do it without pulling the transmission apart and so any advice on the removal and replacement of this bearing would be great.

Related to this issue as there is no time pressure, I am going to take some advice given at out last HU Sunday morning get together, which was that its a good idea to replace any bearings etc as I go when I do other things. (Thanks Rod, good tip I reckon). So for example when I replace the chain and sprockets or tyre I will do the rear wheel bearings as well. So any general advice on replacing bearings will also be greatly appreciated.
