After one week at Wims. I have lots to report.

I think Silkes review was VERY harsh. But I have found out from the other customers/guests at the time why. Not exactly a "unbiased" review. Not the time or place though.

Well.. Ethiopia in general has a water supply problem. I've been without water in places where I've paid far more cash. There are major works going on and people are losing water and electricity all the time. Its normal if frustrating. They always supply water for washing/flushing in buckets etc. If you cant handle this, you shouldn't be in Africa full stop.

The bathrooms are not filthy at all. They are some of the cleanest I've seen in Ethiopia and Africa.

Wim doesn't have WiFi. Fact !!! He doesn't charge you for it either. Whether he should or not is debatable. Internet in slow and crap all over Ethiopia AND expensive for bad service. There are SOOO many cheap internet cafes or free wifi in Hotels, Its never been a problem.

Camping at wims in cheap. Very cheap !! If you take a BASIC room NOT in the bar area, then its 70 birr. The bar rooms are 200-250. Other places are the same price if a little better. BUT, you don't get the atmosphere, fun times and experience at a faceless hotel that you do here.

After your review, he now longer sells the bathroom as private. Overlanders are sharing, caring people. We don't mind sharing our hot water. Wim just assumes this. I'm with you on this one though.

Wim is VERY helpful and VERY friendly. If you take the time to bother getting to know him.

I know you complained about not being allowed to use the kitchen. Would you walk into a hotel who sells food/drink and ask to use their microwave ??? I don't think so. Wims ISN'T a hostel.

The food their is NOT all burger and chips. Thats total BS !! Loads of nice local food, dutch dishes, great soup etc etc. Sure, not always on the menu but you can get anything you ask for. Its not cheap but its the same price as "Buffet de la gare" once you add on their 20% service/tax. Sure, you can go and eat local for less but he's running a business. Hes still cheaper and better than most places in Addis.

I could go on and on but everyone is entitled to their opinion. In MY opinion and all the overlanders who have stayed at Wims with me; we are happy, have no complaints and would come here again without hesitation.

It you want guaranteed hot water, electricity , WiFi etc.. Go to the Ras hotel for 500 Birr (£25) a night or just stay at home.

I'm going to agree with Silke, we paid 180 for that room about
5 weeks ago, I don't know where you got that price from but it is
totally false. But what is true is that Wim is a top bloke
and yes it is a good place to hang out. Would I stay there again
.....not unless it was fixed up a bit ie: water problems etc.
But it is not the worst place for sure.
