Visas obtaining in Africa
 

Hi, I plan my route around Africa. The most of visas I hope to obtain en route. Does anyone have an info about?:
1. Nigeria visa in Niamey
2. Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenia, Ethiopia visas in South Africa or somewhere else
Any info will be useful for me (Adresses, GPS points, etc)

Hey Alex,

in southern and east Africa you will obtain almost every visa directly at the border. There are some visas which need special treatment: Angola, Nigeria and Sudan. For these countries it is not for sure predictable where and when you might obtain them. So you have to try it where ever you are.
Here you will find a list of a lot of embassies and maybe you will extend this list while you are travelling ;-).

Embassy is open for visa business two days a week. If I remember correctly it was tuesdays and thursdays. Normally it is a three day wait. Got mine within 30 mins because it was holidays and the ambassador only came in to do the visa. Price depends on your nationality.

Campsite is a last resort to stay at and I don't recommend it for extended stay. It's an open bar area where many locals come to party. I would not leave my stuff there and go walkabout. But for a night or two it will do.

Tata Hotel is nice and fairly cheap. You can bunk in the common rooms with other people for a very low price, or you can get your own room at around 15k CFA (negotiable). I recommend getting a room. Kitchen is open so you can use the gas stove to cook your own food. There is no restaurant. Excellent parking behind a locked gate that is guarded 24/7.

Grand hotel is quite pricy. Even for Niger. Mostly diplomats and top notch businessmen can afford to stay there. But the restaurant is reasonably priced (as well as the bar) and it is only 500 m's from the Tata hotel. Also, every morning between 0800-1200 there is a western union office inside the lobby, where you can withdraw cash on your visa or mastercard. Check with the reception for opening hours since my memory is a bit fuzzy on that.

Hope this helps. At least for Niamey and the Nigerian visa.

Edit: Forgot one fairly important thing.

There's a pretty good supermarket nearby the Tata hotel (walking distance) where you can get pretty much everything. 13° 30.418'N 2° 7.039'E. Canned goods, spaghetti, meats, cheese and even chocolate :). A good place to stock up or just "pig out" for a bit.

Thanks guys. Now I have a complete information about embassys on the Western Route. The Eastern Route is easyer, except Sudan. I plan to obtain Sudan visa in Addis. But I have an adress only. If someone have a Sudan Embsy GPS point, please let me know.

Hi, angolan consulates in Brazza and Kin refused me a visa 2 years ago.

I plan to obtain a both Congo visas in Yaounde Cameroon. It means I will be able to reach Matadi. I hope to obtain an Angolan transit visa there. I don`t have an invitation. The transit visa is not enough for crossing Angola. I should prolong it. But I don`t know where and how to do it.

Don't get a transit visa for DRC in Yaounde, otherwise you will be rejected in Kinshasa without an valid angolan visa. We've done Angola in 4 days but we were in a hurry and the country is beautiful and the people are really freindly. You are able to prolong it Luanda. German travellers (Pistenkuh – Auf Weltreise mit Sabine und Burkhard Koch) just had the 5 day visa and needed 7 days. This was remarked in a book when they left the country to Namibia. But maybe you can't count on that.
