Sudan to Chad possible but...

two weeks ago we got the travel permit to travel from Khartoum to El Geneina via El Obeid, El Fasher, Nyala. In Nahud we decided to continue direct to Nyala as all the trucks take this route. After Ghubeish there was almost no traffic as everybody travels at night to avoid bandits. Fortunately we didnt meet them. In Ed Daein finally we decided to turn around as the road from Nyala to El Geneina is devenetly unsafe. There is a military convoy but its the preferred target of the rebels and if you travel alone the bandits take care of you. The only possybility would also here have been to travel at night as most of the trucks do, but this was not our understanding of a holiday trip.
The police and the security just say "no problem" when they see the travel permit, but the only reliable information comes from the NGOs who work in the area (Care, Medair, Save the Children).
So, its possible again but there is quite some risk involved.
