Senegal five years or eight?

There was talk after the elections in Senegal of the age limit for cars being raised to eight years.
Does anyone know if this has happened yet, or is it still five years or a big bung?

That's good. With a little creative paperwork I may be able to squeeze my Disco through at 7 1/2 years old. But five would be pushing it

just a few words to add to the discussion,in 2009 i went through there with 96 patrol, both ways ,in 2007 went through with a 1985 merc.also in 07 went in to senegal in the far east with 1986 shogon, which was a absolute skip, you could get a model T ford through if your prepared to pay up.

Chris.
I have been toying with the idea of entering Senegal at Kidira as the prices charged at Diamma are getting out of hand. This year I had to pay 150 euros each vehicle for a two day passavant but two other cars had to pay 200. I hear that they are now charging 250.
I could just about blag my Disco through as seven years old but the other car, no chance.
When you went through in the East did you go Kiffa, Ayoun el Atrous, Nioro, Diema, Kayes and through the border at Kidira? I quite fancy that trip.

reply/east senegal

hello richard
i was on my way from timbuktu to gambia vie bamako, crossed over by KIDERA ,it was a piece of cake. 23 year old right hand drive skip, i think it cost about £5 ,previously we crossed in to mali at NEMA then to NARA,from nouakchott take the tar east till it stops, then turn south,it was bush and piste, there's maybe a road now. the atlantic route is getting to be a right rip off,and mali is a bit dodge now.

Chris.
You are right about it being a rip off. The customs at Diamma must be making over 1000 euro a day in the back pocket. Nice little earner.
I doubt whether the five year rule was ever intended for transit vehicles just for cars being sold in Senegal.

Cheers
Richard
