Hello Rom,

Me and my boyfriend are driving from Belgium to South Africa with our Toyota Landcruiser.
So we're going the other way and are only in Uganda at the moment, so can't speak for all countries.

But the only country we felt that even had a clue what a carnet was and found it really important was Egypt and you're not coming there, so that's already not a big worry.

Driving from Ethiopie to Kenya, you need to stamp out in Ehtiopie, but driving into Kenya there are no costums at the border, so we had to go into Nairobi to get our visa and carnet stamped after a few days. So no-one notice if you enter this country with a car.

Kenya - Uganda there is a big border, but not sure how strict they are as bribing is big here in Uganda... So depends if you wanna be a part of the bribing....

Hope someone else can give you some more info!

Carnet

Hey Rom,

Your sticking point will be Kenya for sure, I can't remember if you'll need one for Uganda though.

I've been refused entry into Kenya coming from Tanzania because I didn't have a Carnet so I would make sure you know before you head up that far.

You could give AASA a call when you arrive in SA, they issue Carnets so they'll be able to give you up to date info.

Oops again..

That is very interesting, it seems that you can..

Sorry for passing on the wrong info.

My Carnet cost under £200 and saved me a lot of time at borders, It was also cheaper than getting TIP's in every country that I travelled through.
