Road Conditions, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt
 

Has anyone driven from Addis through Sudan to the Egyptian boarder in the last 3 months? Can you advise on road conditions? Is it all tarmac at the moment or do we need to plan for dirt and sand, etc.

I rode through in February and March 2016. I'm quite sure an all-tar (or virtually all-tar) route is possible. I did a fair bit of dirt in Ethiopia and nearly all of it was in good to excellent condition. Through Sudan and Egypt the main routes are all tar, and I did a straight shot from Khartoum to Cairo to Alexandria. It's Egyptinan traffic that one needs to be mindful of, and the livestock and people on Ethiopian roadways! ::)
