I haven't travelled La Route d'Espoir east of Kiffa for years now after an Italian was kidnapped at Koubeni near the border. I don't think it is safe after you enter Mali. But note that Nioro and Diema are far east from Kayes. There's never been any incidents that I know of in Kayes and south Mali. Nor in SW Mauretania. |
Niva say Never - that is very useful information! Many thanks.
We are in Morocco at the moment, and should be crossing Diama dam early in the new year. rgds African GirlChild |
No worries at all Girl Child, have a great trip.
It looks like we're on similar journeys! Cape to Cape We're currently kicking back in Ouagadougou awaiting our Ghana visas, if there's any other info we can help with, let us know. Happy travels Sam & Cat |

Covers Burkina, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, Niger and one more country iirc - hmm, Mali perhaps. Not Ghana, was it? |
Hi Priffe,
I have heard of the Visa d'Entente, but wouldn't have a clue where to go to get it. We'll be waiting around until Wednesday for Ghana visas so if you've got any clues about who issues them we can certainly head out and enquire tomorrow if it's useful. :offtopic:Sorry, but.... I don't suppose you've got any info about Nigeria do you? That's our next hurdle, but can't get any concrete info on embasy in Ouaga - it certainly isn't where every website that references it would have us believe. One blog we've read had a couple paying $200 each for Nigeria visas in Accra, certainly don't plan on repeating that experience if we can help it! All the best Sam |
