Is it possible to get the Saudi Arabia visa in Khartoum?
Hi!
We are in Ethiopia now and wish to cross in to Saudi Arabia from Sudan. Does anyone have updated information in getting the visa in Khartoum? Also, I would like to have an idea of the cost of the ferry... Thank you very much!!! Christian p.s.(sorry for double posting, there is a similar thread but from 2001....) |
sudan-jeddah crossing
Hi, we posted questions about this and here are some of the answers we had- we're still in the uk and our plans have changed that mean no longer need to cross from sudan to Jeddah. The 3 responses below were fairly recent but there are no specific contacts so they may not be that helpful...
'we are two Belgian travellers who are now in Khartoum trying to get our Saoudi visas and informing about these ferries. Apparently ferries sail three times a week (monday, wednesday and saturday at 5 p.m.)from Suakin and yes, you can take a car without much problems. Our van is 3.25meter high however, and i still don't know if that is a problem. If you're an unmarried couple you have a problem as the Saudis will not grant you visa. I hope this info is usefull. Take care' 'According to my information there is a ferry every day, but not run by the same company, so check before you buy your ticket. Departure is around 5 pm, you have to enter the port and start formalities at 1 pm, it takes time...' 'You can get a visa for Jordan and a Saudia Arabia in one day in Khartoum. I heard that the ferry is expensive but I do not know the exact price' Good luck with it!! Jemma |
Jemma,
Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in getting a visa. Apparently they only issue transit visa to actual business travelers (delivering something). It was really hard to exactly know what was going out as no one spoke English at the embassy. From what we gathered from our helpgin agent there are some new requirements that makes it more difficult to get sponsored. so bummed out right now. |
This definitely didn't used to be the case as we were there when other Dutch travellers got transit visas and we know they got through - this was in 2002. I know of other people who have come through from UAE and again were able to get Transit visas in the last 5 years. There was a need to have a visa for the exit country - eg Jordan so they knew you could get out. Always hard to know with these things whether some genuine changes have been made or whether it was just bad luck with the official dealing with the application.
