Nogeria -- travel by Land - safety concern? Have u travelled in Nigeria?

I've heard it's not safe to travel by land in Nigeria ..people kidnapped from restaurants, etc.

How safe would a route be from Benin to Abuja to north east border (to go to Chad ) ?

Quite a few recent posts on suggested routes through Nigeria. Perhaps have a read.

We drove through in 2009 with no problems at all.just keep clear of Lagos & the delta region. You can see details of border crossings & routes on our Web site.

I drove from Cameroon to Abuja to Benin (Nikki) last month, so safety issues at all. Personally, I would start to worry if I would have to drive to the border area with Chad or Chad itself; not my cup of tea.

We also cross Nigeria at November 2012 with Lagos. You find also 10 or more Blogs linked by us in our Blog - who cross Nigeria at 2012..

I also suggest to avoid Lagos - a bad border and much hassle - but with some time - also this border is possible :rolleyes2:

i think chad should be more of a concern then Nigeria.
i traveled from Benin to Abuja to Cameroon around this time last year, entering the day they reopened the border after the nation wide strike and had no major issues.
i felt safe and everyone was very friendly bier

Abuja-Nikki(Benin) and back Dec12/Jan13, no safety concerns, everything quiet and peaceful.
But going north-east, starting from Plateau and going to Borno i would not consider at all, Boko Haram is active there, lot of tensions between Fulanis and farmers in Plateau, recent fightings between Army and supposed terrorists in Borno...
