Ok, at hte embassy in Bamako they say this situation has been changed 2 weeks ago. today I'm in Ouaga and tomorrow I'm gonna try to get here.
|
Hi Matteo
How did you get on there in Ouaga? Cameroon border also could be a problem if you are heading that way... Cheers |
I am also urgently seeking information whether the Nigerian visa is currently available in Ouagadougou or Niamey.
I had started my trip a few weeks ago and had planned to get it in Bamako. |
Cotonou, Benin might work since they apparently have switched to online visa processing and a few travellers got their visas there recently without problem.
Check this thread on Lonely Planet: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntr...isa-in-cotonou |
We are by motorcycle and now we are in Cotonou. Tomorrow we'll try to get Nigerian visa here.
But we already waiting for Gabon visa. Are there any news about Gabon visa? |

Nigerian Visa At the border
In iOverlander we know about somebody got it at the border without hassle. 30 days visa. But there isn't the price. We would know if anyone knows if this is true or not.
|
I've read this and the other thread, has anyone got recent experience of trying to apply in Abidjan?
I'm going to go to the Embassy in the next fortnight and see if they'll issue one, but any recent experience would be appreciated! Thanks |
Am guessing the '30 days at the border' was just 30 days entry stamp for someone that already had a visa. No luck in Burkina Faso? Thanks for the updates

Nigerian embassy in Ouaga said that we have to get the visa at the Cotonou embassy, because it's more easy and cheap. We told with the consol and he said no problem. Tomorrow we'll see.

Hi guys, i'm in Bamako right now and i will use thé same way. Some News about thé nigérian visa ?
|
I just came back from West Africa.
In November 2017 the Nigerian embassy (it is now on a new location) refused to give me a visa. In Ghana I met People from Australia. They got their visa in Ouagadougou. The receptionist Thomas at "Big Millys Backyard in Kokrobite/Ghana told me, it is not to difficult to get the Nigeria Visa in Accra. As I know personaly, it's very difficult, to get it in Cotonou. Good luck, Michael |
Just got our Nigerian visa in Ouaga, on the 5th of december 2017.
We are Dutch citizens traveling with a car. But a Portugese backpacker we met tried a few days later and got refused. No idea why, but maybe the rules changed (again :() Good luck! |
Info
Has anyone got any new information on this?Happy new year by the way.:D
|
I have just arrived in Ouagadougou from Dogon country and headed to Nigeria embassy in the morning so I will update on how I get on
|
So today my visa application was approved at the Nigerian embassy in Ouagadougou after interview with the Consul. Unfortunately they won't issue it until Monday so I am stuck here for 3-4 days!
Some background: Irish passport holder Embassy opens at 10 but only does visas on Tuesday and Thursday. Embassy is at a location (correct on Google) South of city and airport, on avenue Pascal zagre and near the Hotel Ouaga 2000 which was on my GPS (T4A) There is lots of free and secure parking in front of it so use your vehicle not a taxi. Be patient... Everything moves slowly there! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Ta
Cheers for that info chief. What sort of paperwork did you need?beer
|
Paperwork:
Complete simple 4 page form they give you (you will need a Nigerian address so I used a hotel I got on booking.com) 2 passport photos 1 copy photo page of passport You pay when you collect the visa. Hope this helps(and that I actually receive mine on Monday!) Simon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Many thanks
Ok chief cheers for that.
|
They no longer issue them on route in ANY EMBASSY. See the new thread. Show stopper. This is not Bull....this is FACT.

Hmmm,
this is worrying. I am currently in Ghana and have angles on Ghanaian residency, at a cost of $US 1000, which is a bit steep. One would imagine that I would then be able to apply for the Nigerian visa I need here in Accra. I will look into this next week and report back. Have I not read somewhere that it's easy to get residency in Togo ? If one was a resident in Togo, surely one could then apply in Togo. Ghanaian immigration told me that if I am resident in Ghana, then I can travel visa free throughout Ecowas. Can't believe that's true though... |
Wow,
maybe it's true. "He added that the biometric identity card replaces residential permit and removed the need for the use of visas to encourage free movement of people in the region. Ouedraogo said that “these cards will also serve as travel documents and they will replace the resident permit and citizens can live and reside in any ECOWAS country without giving any other document”. https://www.biometricupdate.com/2015...n-january-2016 |
Any update on the possibility of getting Nigerian visas en route? That thread that showed it as impossible seems to have been deleted.
Just curious about the situation. Planning to try again in Dakar in a few weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Constructive comments are welcome in this thread, particularly if based on direct personal experience or secondhand reports. Attacks or belittling of other members is not.
Thanks for your cooperation. Mark |
Hi all,
we are planning a trans-Africa trip, leaving the UK in December 2018. This is very worrying about the Nigerian visa - is there any more recent information about this? If the way through Nigeria is impossible is there any other way round? For example is there a ferry that bypasses Nigeria? Thanks for any info you have! Lottie |

Nigerian Visa
I’ll be in Ouaga next 15th of may
I’m heading towards Camerun and I already have the visas for Burkina Togo and Benin but not for Nigeria Where is the best place to get it Ouaga or Cotonou?? |
The procedure now seems to be to apply online, specifying that you will pick up the visa in Cotonou (or perhaps somewhere else, I don't know).
I did this and it all went very smoothly, picking up the visa on the same day I went into the embassy in Cotonou. Some people have faced demands for extra documents at that time, including a Cameroon visa (if you're going out that way). I didn't have that, but you can get a Cameroon visa in Cotonou. The one problem people seem to have had is paying online - you need a Visa or MasterCard which has their security check system, "Verified by Visa" or whatever. When you apply online, they give you a date to turn up in Cotonou. It doesn't seem to matter, I turned up a month late. |
Are you sure it's pos to get a Cameroon visa in Cotonou ?
|
I didn't get a Cameroon visa there, so I have no personal experience, but I did phone the Honorary Consul, so he exists. More information is on Thorn Tree: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntr...isa-from-benin .
The number I called for the Consul was 97913712 I forgot to mention that it is worth taking the usual array of documents when you go to the Nigerian Embassy: e.g. I gave a copy of my passport and an itinerary; I was also asked for hotel booking and Cameroon visa, but said no and that was accepted |
More Nigerian visa issues!!!
UPDATE: As of a week ago it appears the Nigerian Embassy in Ouaga has stopped issuing visas again, meaning there is NO WHERE to get visas as both Bamako and Cotonou stopped months ago
BEWARE!!! |
Still possible to get the Visa in Burkina Faso. Just bring a letter of invitation. You can fake it they dont get it. Without letter it is difficult i think.
Bring all the Documents on Tuesday 10am, Pick up passport at Friday 2pm. Got mine same day with an traveller from the states. me Swissport 84000cfa. maybe it also helps if you say you go by plane. Just say you fly from benin and has no flight ticket yet. the visa is the same so it doesnt matter. the guy said normally it is just for residents, so i dont know how its gonna be in future. good luck |
Willy, heard you were at the embassy yesterday with the American I helped out!
Fingers crossed Ouaga will continue to issue them, I think it helped a lot that he got an invitation letter to enter Nigeria (which he will owe cake and beer for!!!) bier |
Try getting it in Accra

In mid 2016 friends negotiated hard at the Nigerian Embassy in Gambia and not only got a visa, but the period of time before they had to enter was 6 months! Might be still worth a try. (Back then I got mine in Bamako...) -Dan |
