Nigeria visa

I seem to be finding the Nigeria visa a bit tricky to arrange (I'm in the UK with a British passport).

Can anyone advise on either arranging an invitation, or how easy it is to get in a neighbouring country (Cameroon in particular, although I'm open to suggestions).

Thanks.

Different rules may apply to Brits, but for other EU citizens, Accra is a good place (around 50$), and otherwise Conakry.

I've come accross people that got a transit visa from Conakry and they only noticed that by the time got to the border. So make sure you get a one month visum.

Yes, Accra seems like a good option. USD 54 for a 3-month single entry, hand in application on Monday or Thursday, visa next day. We're handing in ours this afternoon so I'll let you know if we get it tomorrow!

got my Nigeria visa in Accra. Handed all the forms in, then got knocked back because they wanted a reference. Friendly local bar man agreed, back to the embassy. Knocked back again because I didn't have proof of 'means of travel'. Back the next day with bike docs and they let me have the visa.

Arrived at the northern border (was heading to Chad) and the border guards cancelled the $54 visa and gave me 7 days! Utterly unamused.

Bonjour,

sorry we are not British, but a good place to get your visa for Nigeria is Libreville/Gabon.

We had a faxed invitation, carnets, 15000 CFA (30 Usd) each and got the visa next day. very friendly and helpful. we are German and Swiss and I know it can be different with a British passport.

Entering Nigeria, the imigration officer also wanted to reduce the visa - but I just said that the embassy issued it for one month and that we need one month. he tried to make a problem because it was a buisness visa, but again I said the embassy stuff knows what they are doing and that we had an invitation from a bike club, it worked again and we could enter for one month without paying a cent or a neira.

greetings from marocco, and good luck

mika and damaris

Calabar is in Nigeria! Not in Cameroon. You can get visa for Cameroon there, but not for Nigeria.

Accra is the best place !
Also there were rumors about higher prices for UK passports it was on the contrary!
Uk passport 54$ while me as a Dutch had to pay 56$!
The visa I got was transit and the length could be up to 21 days depending on your smile and request!
and Indeed Calabar is the better place to issue a visa to Cameroon!!!!

Thanks for this.

I've also now had reliable accounts of getting Nigerian visas in Yaounde, and the consulate in Buea, also in Cameroon.

Hi,

another good place to get your Nigerian visa is The Gambia. We got it there without any problems at the end of last year. Only possible disadvantage is that it takes three days.
For how long the visa is valid seems to be determined at the border and is not mentioned on the visa itself. We entered somewhere in the middle of the Westside of Nigeria (can't remember the name of the borderpost right now) and all officials were very friendly there. The female custom officer even gave my girlfriend a big hug and called her sister, while the immigration guy just asked us how long we would like to stay, and granted us the requested month without any problems.
Good luck with the visa,

Koen
