Is it possible to travel from Niger to Chad and then Cameroon overland?

I think if you rule out going through Nigeria and the Boko Haram areas you could possibly do it by going around lake Chad provided there is an official border crossing and security.
I rode through Cameroon into Chad and then through Chad to Western Sudan back in 2014 so once in Chad it is possible to move on to Cameroon.

I met two Germans in cars a couple weeks ago who had just been refused their Chad visas in Niger. They had done the proposed route before. Apparently the border is closed to tourists because of Boko Haram. I was warned against traveling to Niger for the same reason by Malian truckers although the Germans had no issues there. I believe their blog is offroad-fun.de.
