Motorbike licence for trans-continenal trip

Hello everyone,
I'm not long into biking, only a year and still on a provisional licence, but was planning on biking around Africa. The plan was to chill out in South Africa for a few months and get their full license and hence the international permit. In Ireland this process takes a number of years graduating to the full license - unfortunately checking out a forum in drivers.com has alerted me to the fact that South Africa may be more problem-some - a year delay at least with bribery along the way. I'm surely not naive in thinking these official documents are important for any trans national trip throughout Africa and Asia with regards to Carnets and bike insurance etc. Currently on a Yamaha Dt and was probably going to do trip on Suzuki Dr 640. Any advice very welcome
Michael

First of all I am not too sure you can get a south african licence if you are not south african? I did my full uk licence, from nothing, in four days. (I am 32yrs and have full drivers)
  1. CBT
  2. theory
  3. DAS lesson
  4. DAS test.
Also I heard from SA that they had to close down their entire licence dept for a few days as no one could opperate the new computer system. Its a joke! But if you are South african it may pay to fly home and find someone who can sell you a licence! But I believe thats very difficult now. And chilling out in a south african jail is not good for the ass! So as they say in South Africa "Kak en betaal"
