Most cost effective to cross into Kinshasa?

What is the best route into Kinshasa from Congo Brazzaville?

I heard the ferry from Brazzaville costs an absolute fortune and is a complete rip off, I've also heard of crossing through Angola, but at this stage I only have a single entry and don't want to pay another $100 + for a couple of hours transit.

Anyone have any ideas? is there a more cost friendly way to cross or another crossing I haven't heard of?

Maybe the rumour about the ferry is incorrect, but I read it here on The Hubb

(I will be 2up on a KTM1190 for that stage)

Cheers

Luozi is cheap, very easy border guards and the ferry across doesn't cost much for a bike. Bloody tough road though.

Like I said I'll be 2up on an 1190, the crossing will be mid to end of August so I'm not sure what the rain is doing then. If it is dirt track then its okay, but if its completely off-road and/or sand/swampland then I'm out. Any info? by the way thats going toward Boko right?

Hi Wanted,
I will make that road in August (about 6 ..).with ktm 990 (two people - one bike)...we can made it together!

Louzi crossing when it is dry is mostly not offroad but moto-trial. Jumping from stone to stone. IMHO it is possible to cross it on 1190 2up, but will require a lot of driving skills and a lot of time: the road is bloody hilly so passenger should jump off before every climbing or descending. You will need a LOT of water also because it is very exhausting. I was lucky to meet nice english fella going same way on landcruiser so we fit all the water in his car. It was something like 15 litres total and main consumer was me. After all it was barely enough to do this way. So I will strongly recommend to stay somewhere like Hippocampe at Brazza and wait for somebody crazy with car or truck going to do the same route.

I crossed using the ferry the other way (Kin - Brazza) and it was kind of OK, not so expensive (after 1/2 day of bargaining), but memorable.

I don't know how it works on Brazza side, but I would give it a shot, you've got nothing to lose. As the others said, the Luozi crossing may end up being more difficult, and, if you're breking the bike (or yourself) mire expensive. But an adventure in itself !

In both cases, make sure to keep us posted with pictures !

Ah man that sounds like a lot of fun solo, but a horrible time 2up. I have to look after my girlfriend so after that description I think that counts out the Louzi crossing. Does anyone have any recent experience going from Brazza to Kinshasa via the ferry? Maybe I should just shell out the extra 40 euro and get a multi entry for Angola... that would probably be better right?

I did the luozi route from kinshasa to brazzaville in about 2,5 days with 2 persons up on a tiny 125cc bike. Road was a lot of water an holes, but with slow driving doable.
I think it's a nice route and there are possibilitys to sleep in one of the tiny villages along the road.

Wow, much looking forward to the crossing.

But we have a challenge with DRC visa. Embassy in Gabon said they only give visa to Gabon residents - will it be possible to get one in Brazza? Or will they sell one in Luozi?
