How long can I leave my uk registered bike in South Africa for on a TIP

Hi, I came into SA from Namibia on a bike I bought in the Congo last September and was given, on request, a TIP for 6 months. My mate, in a UK registered bike was also given a 6 month TIP. I believe that's the maximum you will get at the border.
