jeddah Sudan RORO
Is there a roro ferry service between jeddah and port Sudan?
|
I believe there is a ferry and its possible to take your vehicle on it rather than a RORO. Know other people who headed off back that way but haven't done it myself. Did however speak to the ferry company in Khartoum in 2002 and seemed to be all fine.

Hi
2002 there where 3 Ferry companies in business. Over all there was a ferry nearly every day. We paid 180 us for two persons deck class and a Landcruiser. Regards Bernd www.afritracks.de |
I don't know the price for a bike off-hand, but a car on this ferry costs about 35,000 Sudanese Dinars (around US$150). There's also a vehicle departure tax of about US$20.
Buy tickets in Port Sudan, Khartoum or Suakin (ferries actually sail from Suakin, not Port Sudan which is a freight port only). Frequencies of ferries vary - usually one a week, but more in the months in the run up to the Haj in Saudi. At the risk of a shameless plug, this ferry crossing is covered - along with all open overland routes to Sudan - in the Bradt Sudan guidebook, of which I am the author... |
