Great to hear from you. Yup, stupid tax really cut into my beer drinking capabilities but i'll battle on regardless. What are you guys upto ?? Living in large as always I guess :) Quote:
The camp was very quiet when we were there and the beer was crazy expensive. Apart from that, it was nice !:thumbup1: |
Good to reads you're having fun Ted!
At least you're missing frozen solid UK! I've said it before & said it a thousand times- & never understood why, just for the sake of not carrying a few kilos more, people don't carry those critical spares and a set of spare tyres.:whistling: It always results in the same- usually a stranded traveller spending money on extra accom/camping waiting for parts + paying exhorbitant import taxes + DHL costs + hassle + losing days off their visas and end up seriously over spending doh! IMVHO -Takes those few extra kilos - you'll be glad you did!!:thumbup1: |
Was ok yeah ! Hippos around our tents made for some nervous moments and we didnt sleep well. Saw some crocs too

Nice idea if you're on a big fat bike riding pavement/easy gravel, but not if you're going lightweight on sh!t/no roads like Ted, IMHO. Carry spare tyres on a 400cc dirtbike? The tyre on his bike would have lasted had it not got cut by something sharp (a stone on the Moyale-Isiolo non-road?) Ted was carrying a spare sprocket attached to the bike. It fell off I believe... Ted: Have you considered a backup car to carry all your excess cr@p? Maybe a fixer/camera crew/doctor too?:oops2::offtopic: Enjoy it, it's bloody cold here and you're heading for a South Africa summer... Lucky lucky illegitimate person. C |
yeah.. Tyre failure could not of been prepared for.. Just one of those things reallly. The tyre would of probably lasted until South Africa at a push. I had no intention of buying tyres in Niarobbery !
I'm carrying WAY too much stuff already. My tool kit is huge compared to most as I always like to be prepared. A DRZ400 is a lot smaller than most people think and its weight carrying capabilities are very limited. It handles worse than a 650 with even basic luggage. To be honest, im cursing it every day. It's totally the wrong bike for the trip. I kind of knew that before I left but I got talked into using it by the guy I "was" travelling with. The roads down the east just don't warrant a full on Enduro bike. An XT660/Tenere would be PERFECT for this trip. Live n learn eh doh |

Ted, are you not with Neil anymore? |
Nope...
I made a mistake there. Two weeks into the trip, I knew it wasn't going to last. He really isn't my type of person at all. I don't want to go into details on a forum but I REALLY had to bite my lip and use the patience of a saint a lot of the time. It was like being with a 13 year girl on a constant period ! I sure was glad to see the back of him !! :rolleyes2: So now I'm travelling with another British guy called James and we're having a great time !! :funmeteryes: I guess you really have to be careful who you hook up with for extended trips. You really don't know someone until you travel with them... |
know the feeling well Ted !! :oops2:
Good luck and enjoy |
