Going through Africa with no real planning

We have just finished the first half of our trip from Oz to London. Our next leg is to cape town down the east coast.

To be honest, we haven't done any planning (with the exception of starting to look at some Libyan agencies). Not even sure where we'll get all our visas etc. Not sure about routes to take in the countries we want to go through and what to see.

We were planning on leaving around May 09 on the Africa leg, but have had enough of London after our 1st week back.

So the question is, will it be silly/stupid or maybe possible to do the east coast without a lot of planning.

Countries we are going through is Tun/Libya/Egypt/Sudan/maybe Ethiopia/Kenya/Tanz/Zambia/Botswana/RSA.

We plan to be in RSA around Dec09, so have a bit of time on our hands.

All opinions welcome, thanks peeps!!:thumbup1:

Don't know the North so well, but Southern Africa you want to do in the dry season if you're into watching animals and driving dirt roads....

I'd say July to October will be your best bet for Zambia and Botswana.

No problem without planning

Nothing to worry about, Libya is the only country that can be a pain but the rest are easy to go without a plan. Enjoy!

Hope you make a turn by us in SA!

Thanks Jean, sent you a pm.

Where are you now? I saw you were in Europe Nov 08. Still around there somewhere or back in SA again?

Howzit!

Now in Brazzaville, catching the ferry into Kinshasa in the morning, will probably be in Namibia in 10 to 12 days, things are coming to and end too soon :-(((

We did it without planning, and I wouldnt worry about route planning, you can get all the visas you need on the way (libya and sudan need to apply from neighbouring countries, algeria from UK), buy maps (although could get a few basic in London), and if travelling by car any work needed doing on it do in mainland Europe a lot cheaper....

No planning. Best you can do

In Africa all comes different anyway.

Hey there Pumbaa

Sorry I don't have much to add, but if anything I'd say anti-malaria and the Carnet de Passage freak me out the most about the planning. I think England has just made me soft though.:(.. As it does... Ultimately it's just the cost of everything, will I have enough money to cover everything??? I know we went to Zimbabwe from SA in 2004 and just winged it on through... It was fantastic! The only real thing we did before was the general route and anti-malaria.

Good luck:funmeteryes:
