Gabon Visa at border with Cameroon???

So.... After spending a couple days trying (read: sitting in the Gabonese embassy trying to get past the grumpiest woman in the world to talk to someone reasonable), I decided to skip Gabon and just go to Congo.

However, a couple friends went to the embassy and were told it was probably possible to get their visa for Gabon at the border for 55,000. Now I'm thinking of giving it a shot.

Thus, I have a couple questions for you wise folk:
1) Has anyone tried this of late???
2) What are the border procedures at that Cameroon/Gabon border?
3) What happens if they accept my exit from Cameroon and then I get denied my entry to Gabon? I only have a single entry visa to Cameroon. Do they just rescind the exit stamp? Or would I have to pay for a whole new visa?

Appreciate the advice!

Brendan,
I posted a generalized situation of exiting and not being admitted to another country here some time ago (and specific example w/ CI - Liberia) and received a kind answer that it's unlikely to be caught in no-man's land,

But I would
inform the Cameroon guard on exit that you are going to check things out w/ Gabon side officials (ie, not committing to actually leaving)

Ask them to ensure you are permitted back if you come back within 30 minutes or so.

Sorry got to run here

Thoughts gained from 2010:

- If you don't speak good French forget it. People tried.
- Gabon officials are often rude and unhelpful - arrogant, as you experienced at the embassy. So expect the same at the border.
- French nationals don't need a visa in advance I think? Most others do.
- Immigration is not done at the border! It's done in the town of Bitam (from memory??) about 15km in from the border. So less likely they will allow you to drive inside the country without a visa to discuss the situation?? But if you do get past the border it is more likely they will sort something out??
- There was no barrier across the road for immigration in Bitam by the way, you could drive straight past if you didn't know to stop.

I'd say check the nationalities of those who told you it was possible at the border.

The road between Yaounde and the border is excellent, so no dramas there. Nice mission in Oyem if you make it that far.

Hi Brendan,
We just got our Gabon visa today at the embassy in Yaounde (took 4 days).
We met you at the Presbyterian mission (the Blue unimog)
did you get the visa at the border?
