Eritrea visa - 3 questions

1. Where (embassy) did you get it ...in Africa?
(my country has no Eritrean embassy, i'm in Africa / not Europe)

2. Processing time (same day, few days, weeks, non-responsive embassy)?

3. Email address , ciurrent, working ... for any Eritrean embassy ... do you have such?

Hoping it might be possible in Egypt, Sudan, or Kenya .... but on Lonely Planet Thorntree those who got it seems everyone did so outside Africa OR they used a tour operator in Eritrea which wants you to book a lot of things 9tours & hotels) with them... vs maybejust one thing ... and the tour agency doesn;t respond to emails

Many thanks!

Eritrea visa - 3 questions

Hello

with Visa alone you are not able to travel around in the country. For that you need a special permit. Don't think you will get that.
Currently only one border crossing is open, the one with Sudan. Djibouti one has been closed for ages.
I got my Visa after 3 weeks negotiations in Nairobi (2009) but unfortunately didn't enter after I heard about the permit issue.
I spent nearly 1 year in Eritrea in 2003/2004. Beautiful country with a lot of history and nice places.

Greets

Cairo, near Tharir Square, is probably your best bet. Not simple. Been in Asmara twice for official business (pleasant but felt like The Truman Show movie), was never allowed to go to the country side. Lucky enough to take pictures. Be ready to have some folk count all the pennies in your pockets, keep track of funds used, with proof of change and receipts. Show all electronics at entry, and list model and serial number for each. Show again when exiting. Good luck. Post update please.

Thx Squire and Claudio.

Claudio, i will fly into Asmara and then get permits to travel to a few places.
Most folks on HUBB are overlanding, yes, but
a) i've done several overland trips
b) now on country # 185
I did not set out to visit all countries, however with so few remaining, i will fly to get somewhere that is almost logically impossible to occur.
