Egypt to Sudan - and Syria > Saudi
Do I take it no one has crossed from Egypt to Sudan for some time now?
Are people ferrying from Saudi to Eritrea/Djibouti? Or is Port Sudan to Eritrea/Ethiopia doable? You imagine the East route might become a bit easier if Turkey > Syria > Jordan > Saudi becomes possible, assuming there's a Red Sea ferry to somewhere safe. |
With all the problems (full cash deposit at the border, unless this has recently been revoked) in entering Ethiopia, I believe the practiacble route has been Kenya - Oman (or maybe UAE) by RORO. No ferry of course.
Syria has been transit-able for several years, and accessible from Lebanon via a very expensive ferry (Tasucu - Tripoli). So sadly no change that I see, even if Syrian borders remain open. EO |
One more thing to mention - a friend of mine (freelance journalist) has recently (14th December) been to the Cilvegozu/Bab al Hawa border crossing (main road between Antakya and Aleppo) and was not allowed to cross by the Turks. So right now it seems the Turkey-Syria border remains closed for private travellers (except Syrians), as it has been for many years. Let's hope it opens soon.
