DR CONGO update and ELECTIONS-BORDER CLOSED

Please be aware that due to the forthcoming elections on the 30th July the Border crossings in and out of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are reported to be closing on the 22nd july until 8 August.

Much of the eastern border areas are still unstable but those wishing to visit the Virunga National Park side of country will not be disapointed!
There is much to see and experiance.
Entry from Uganda via Kasindi (QE National park) is possible and ok.
Entry into Goma from Rwanda is also possible and viewing the gorillas from this side is cheaper!!.

I work in the National Park and can assist with secure bike parking (free) tourist type and other advice should you need , If i can get my KTM here i might even join you for a day on the road.

Parts are scarce but there are excelent freight links to Europe and most stuff can be got from europe pretty quickly. There are some good restaurennts and hotels in Goma. It also boosts a store selling european foods, camping equipment and very high quality tools.

Re: ELECTIONS-BORDER CLOSED

Hello,

As it comes to the east of DRC, rob's info about the border closure was incorrect (or not implemented). The border in Goma was closed on the 29th morning (Saturday, before Sunday's elections) and opened again on Monday, just after it. I expect it would be the same during next round of the vote.

I have crossed the border in Bukavu by bicycle on the 5th, just after elections. Everybody there was very excited about it (the vote, not me).

Cheers!
