Cheapest campground near St. Louis

Looking to camp in that area, have a base to explore the parks in that region. 2 up on a 125cc motorcycle.

Typically we would stealth camp but we're hoping to spend a few days in that area.

What's the cheapest camping near there?

I have seen zebrabar ($7usd per person) and 7palava ($5usd per person).

Or of course, if anyone knows of any secluded bush campsites...

Not sure about cheaper campsites but stayed at Zebrabar last year. It's situation ia a bit special, in a national park, lots of wildlife, particularly birds, great swimming too. Also a good place to meet other travellers heading north/south. About 30 mins by bike from St Louis. They now have wifi too.

If you want to stay in St Louis itself instead there is Camping de l'Ocean. Cross the bridge into the colonial quarter, then over the other bridge from the square. Hard left after the bridge along the river front following the fishing market. It's about 1-2 kms down there. Nice quiet spot. From memory about 3000CFA per person per night to camp.

l'ocean is a nice place with cold beers, that you can by with your euros or CFA but camp in the center of the feild, not near the wall, as our group had there tents slashed and stuff stollen from tents near the wall

Went to 7 Palava. We loved it. Delicious warthog goulash and cheap beer. Saw monkeys and plenty of exotic birds . Sadly the rapid erosion of the coast is threatening the campsite so they are closing as of 13 May 2015. They are pretty bummed about it, with luck they can re-open in the future if things improve.

Can only comment on the Zebrabar, stayed there back in 2012, very relaxing and spacious site, cold beers, good fishing and a great spot to chat to other overlanders. Yes you are a 30 min drive outside of St Louis but I actually quite liked being able to do day trips into the city before returning to the calm of the Zebrabar. It also has a decent equiped workshop (fixed the exhaust on my landcruiser there).

Watch out for the baboons as they will nick anything not fixed down, woke up to find one standing on the bonnet of the car peering through the side window of the roof tent!
