Burkina Faso travel warnings

The British FCO advice says that western Burkina Faso is safe, however new German guidelines have said that the area around Bobo-Dioulasso is a complete no go.

Does anyone know a link to the French guidelines as hopefully these should be a bit more accurate?

Seems to be as usual, no go area along the Malian border which has been in effect about 6-7 years now

Interesting Liberia & Sierra Leone are marked but Guinea generally isn't ...

Don't know (or care) much about the 'guidelines' but anything south of Ouaga is peaceful, especially Bobo. Going north be observant, the NE corner of Burkina is not safe.

I'd be careful there, there has been jihadist movements in northern Cote d'Ivoire a few months ago (they were picked up though luckily) and there is talk that they do go over into Burkina ...

But I agree, Banfora and that end of the country is stunning!

Well there are some bandits roaming about and they have no reason to respect the borders. There has been incidents in Sikasso region, but none that I am aware of on the Burkina side. Malian troops kill jihadists on I. Coast border: Mali army
No reason to avoid Bobo.

Yes, but from a security point of view crossing into Burkina and the southern end near the Malian border ...

I've spent 4 months in/around Cote d'Ivoire so far this year and am in daily contact with what is going on. I was in Bamako and towards Sikasso almost two months ago ...

A few months old but this gives you some indication of the border activity at the moment. I can't find the article about the dozo's capturing some jihadists in ?August or so.

Après ses attaques au Mali: Un chef jihadiste aux mains des Dozo ivoiriens

OP - at the end of the day, keep your ear to the ground & try to stick with Malians/Burkinabes who'll look after you!

I'm at Bobo for more than a week. Everything looks pretty safe and clear. Easily crossed border, easily arrived. People are nice. There would be elections after tomorrow but I don't see any sign of tensions. Usual advertising and street propaganda. Going to Ouagadougou tomorrow.
