Border crossing [RIM-Senegal] Bogue & Kaedi
Does anybody know how is the border crossing from Senegal to Mauri (and reverse) at Bogue and Kaedi ? I' ve seen some photos with rafts big enough for a mercedes van at Bogue. We try to avoid Diama and Rosso, any info will help

I crossed with my motorcycle in a pirogue at Bogue from Mauritania to Senegal in Dec 2006. At the time we didn't see any pirogues large enough for a car or 4x4. It may have changed since but I wouldn't bet on it!
There was a police hut on the Mauri side to stamp you out, but there was nothing on the Senegalese side to stamp you in. |
I found on an approaching landing map and on an IGN mauritania printed last year a bridge from Kaedi into Senegal. Can anyone confirm that?

Yes, does anybody know a way to cross between Mauretania and eastern Senegal with a 4x4?
Happy travels! |
We asked around in Bogue and Kaedi, and even went down to the river where the chinese are working on a goudron west of Kaedi, but no bridges and no ferryboat although the river was small

I just skimmed through Itchy's Mauritania vids (amazing droning around Guelb) and note she crossed at Bogué on a pirogue with her light bike a few weeks back. So nothing has changed in years.
Paid 1500 oogs (£35?) and with police controls on either side, but had to go to 'wild west' Rosso to get her two-day passe avant to continue to Dakar for the CdP stamp. I also saw she easily managed to buy carte brune insurance for all of West Af in St Louis. Arrow on map below. Maybe on iOverlander already? |
