Bissau to Conakry coastal route?
Hi all,
Doe anyone have any recent information about the alternative route from Bissau to Conakry via Quebo and Pitche. It seems most people take the longer route through the Fouta Djalon mountains, but I hear that it too is very bad piste at times, so perhaps it is better to take a shorter bad piste. Happy travels, Gee |
Hi Gee,
can't really help you with recent information about this route. Just wanted to throw in that even though the piste towards Labé through the Fouta Djalon might be rough it is 100% worth it. We enjoyed the far northwest the most as this part of the country is sparsely populated and the few inhabitants almost exclusively live in pretty tatched roundhuts. Great wildcamping territory as well. Cheers Fabian |
The coastal road is impassable during or shortly after the rainy season. Unless you have a truck with high ground clearance, then the border guards will possibly allow you to pass. The shortest detour is a rough piste between Piche - Koumbia.
Here is what I wrote in my trip report: "The South-Western borders between Guinea-Bissau and Guinea-Conakry were still flooded and unpassable in mid-January, so we had to drive to the North-Western border post between Pitche and Foulamory. The roads between Gabu and Boke via Koumbia (300km / 12hrs incl. 1 tow-ferry) are extremely bad, as well as between Kenema and the Fairo/Mamba borderpost (150km / 5hrs). Thank you both!
I will leave for the northern route through the Fouta Djalon tomorrow! Happy travels, Gee |
