Best attractions in Africa!

Hello all,

So I'm in the stages of planning my London to Cape Town solo ride, down the EAST of Africa. Planning to head off November this year. Just a matter of saving money now!

Can anyone advise me on some amazing activities or attractions that shouldn't be missed on my trip down. Obviously this extremely subjective, but thought it would be helpful (for others too), to compile a list of places that really aren't worth missing.
I'm on a shoe-string budget, but willing to pay for once-in-a-lifetime thrills!
Names and locations of specific camps/locations would be brill!
So far I've been told:

Ugandan Gorilla Trek
Grade 5 White-Water Rafting - Jinga, Uganda
Scuba Diving - Djibouti
Victoria Falls
Murchison Falls National Park  (Legal to tour on motorbike!)
Danakil Depression - Ethiopia

I understand that there is a lot of information online - but thought some first-hand experiences and advice would be equally helpful!

Thanks bier

Well it is a continent and there is plenty of great things to see. But from a tourist point of view:
Sudan: Meroe Pyramids, costs pretty much nothing and there are no tourists.

Ethiopia: Lalibela is a must! I thing it`s around 50 USD for non-Ethiopians. Ticket is valid for 5 days, take your time. Worth every penny.

Uganda: Murchison Falls NP is great, but riding the bike in the park is not as great as you might imagine now. You have to focus on the dirt track and hardly have time to look for animals whilst riding. Anyway you will scare them away with the loud engine. It is a unique experience though. But, if you want to see some game i`d recommend a guided game drive.

Rwanda: Just ride it. Great roads!

Malawi: Scuba diving like in a fish tank. Take your time on the lake.

Vic-Falls a great and all but super touristy.

I don`t know if you are heading for Namibia but I'd highly recommend it. Countless great dirt tracks and sights. Sossusvlei is unbelievable, Lüderiz is fascinating too plus the Fish River Canyon (the list is not exhaustive)

Have a grat trip! Stay safe!

I did a 6 month tour of Southern Africa last year and some of my highlights were :- South Luangwa National Park - Zambia
Chimanimani in the Eastern Highlands and Great Ruins in Zimbabwe
Sani Pass and pretty much the whole country - Lesotho
Fish River Canyon - Namibia
I did over 20,000 km and had a fantastic time - not one bad day . I was welcomed everywhere and shown unrivalled hospitality . Have a look at my Facebook page -Pan without a plan for more info .
Cheers
Gareth

El Topherino aw man, I am so sorry you didn't LOVE LOVE LOVE riding in Murchison Falls, Uganda. BTW, you can ride in ALL national parks in Uganda. And the bike doesn't have to keep moving! You can stop, hang out with the animals, (watching over your shoulder regularly, stay alert!) and just SIT on your bike and watch. WAAAY better than being in a safari guide if you're not the driver! Check out my link below and see how close I am to the elephants. I stayed with them 1 1/2 hours. Loved every second...

Hey man, I was looking at riding down the East and back up the West but had to change my plans as right now it's sounding impossible to get from Israel/Jordan into Africa including shipping direct to Sudan. Did you plan to ship directly into Egypt? At this stage for me Egypt will be my last country so will deal with that at the end of the year, but think I will try and find a different way out of Africa possibly shipping to Oman or something
