Banjul Port Gambia
I am planning to ship 2 landcrusier pickups from Australia to Banjul Port by 40' container and then drive them down though West Africa. Has anyone used this port and can you advise on customs etc. The cars will have Australian rego etc and be accomplice by the licensed driver.
Any other suggestions of better Ports/Customs (maybe Spain) or alternatives very welcome. Regards David |
Don't know if you've been to Africa before but customs & getting things done quickly without cost, pain & mental stress is often difficult!
I can't speak for Banjul; I'm sure others can, but beware!!! Kira |
Gambia-Banjul
Kira
Thanks. I have lived in GB and Senegal and have driven down from Europe in 2003. I have been advised that Gambia is the easiest Port to deal with and Senegalese ship cars to Banjul and not Dakar, because of the ease of dealing with the officialdom. Anyone who has dealt with sending a car there and can advise first hand, I would be keen to have your advice. Regards David |
hi david,
--I have been advised that Gambia is the easiest Port to deal with and Senegalese ship cars to Banjul and not Dakar, because of the ease of dealing with the officialdom.-- not true, banjul port nowadays is a pain in the ass... if your vehicles are rhd, even for temporary import ( i.e. for touristic ) you may have to pay a deposit, they will ask you a " carnet de passage ", as rhd vehicles are not allowed in the gambia anymore. in my opinion dakar is far more easy, but you should speak at least basic french. anyway, in case of need i could provide you contact numbers for clearing agents for banjul and dakar. greetz from gambia, todo |
