anyone shipped from the US to South Africa?
If you've done this I'd be interested to hear details and/or advice... what company you worked with, how easy or difficult it was, and of course how much $$$ ! I'm trying to figure out if it'll be more efficient to ship a bike (possibly as an import in order to sell it after the trip) or just show up and buy an overpriced South African bike.
BTW, I'm in Oregon on the west coast USA. thanks. |
I am sorting out those details now, shipping in one month. So far the cheapest is with TNT Frieght, about USD$650 from Vancouver to Durban, slightly more to Cape Town, slightly more yet to Jo' burg.
Shouldn't be that different from Seattle. Boat goes through Singapore, transit time about 40-43 days. Waiting for the quotes to come from Shenker and LockerEvers. Rene |
Rene much thanks the info... when you get the other shipping quotes please post them.
|
so did you ship?
Rene I would love to hear what shipping option you ended up going with. What company and how much $$ ? Thanks

The bike leaves in 7 days. I will do a detailed report once I arrive, but here in the skinny...
From Vancouver to Jo'burg ~ USD$800. USD$250 in port fees on the other end. Estimated time 43 days, but they say to pad that by 10%. Going with TNT Frieght, Ocean through Singapore. |
I am in California, trying to figure out the best way to do an Africa trip
it seems like the cost difference for shipping about equals the price difference for buying a bike in SA. anyone know about selling an SA bike in the UK - import duties etc. Gary |
