Any one ridden across the Kalahari?

Hello everyone.

I am after information about the Kalahari. When I thought about this trip I envisioned riding north to south across the Kalahari. Since then I have wandered slightly and it went by the wayside. However now I am in the north of Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls and so have the left or right decision to make.

So apart from Chobe national park would the route south be realistic. Roughly; Maun to Ghanzi by tar then head south passing the Mabuasehube Game Reserve and hitting the border at Tshabong. A big distance I know, but not my first time out in the sticks. And as with all my silly ideas a get out clause, half way'ish at Tshane.

So has anyone been that way or close? Any information would as always be greatly received.
Cheers, Zed.

No bikes allowed in the game reserves. The tracks in the BOT game reserves are often deep sand. Further south, in SA (rather Karoo), the roads are mostly good to ride. Sometimes tarmac, often dirt roads, but mostly hard surfaced gravel.

Some interesting spots in the Karoo: Verneuk Pan salt flats, Tankwa NP.

Yeah I know I cannot ride the bike through the reserves. Shame it would be interesting/foolish!

It is the sand I am not sure about. The bike is obviously loaded and deep sand is its nemesis. I have to know it is doable. Deep sand when you are very tired is not a good mix. I have tracks 4 Africa in the satnav so can way point when required to find a way around, but if all that does is bring up more bad terrain I could run out of options really quickly.
