Angola Visa in Windhoek

Hi,
Thought I'd post latest info...
Just got a 30-day visa for Angola here in Windhoek (British passport).

Requirements:
Letter of Invitation
2 photos
Travel Insurance
Photocopy of Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate
Passport
Namibian visa valid for 6 months.

Above is the official requirements. Of course, as a tourist, my Namibian visa is only valid for 3 months. I explained I could not comply with this last requirement and was told I should apply in my home country.
I explained that I had left the UK 4 months ago and therefore any visa would not have been valid by the time I arrived. Also explained that the UK visa agency I had contacted required return flights booked (not possible when travelling overland). I smiled sweetly and asked if she could make an exception :)
She checked my passport stamps to see that what I was saying was true, and said that she would allow me to apply without the 6-month Namibian visa, adding that she couldn't be sure I would actually get a visa.
Took the risk - cost 1500 Namib dollars (paid at bank across from embassy) - one week later picked up passport with 30-day visa!!

Now very excited about going!

Thanks for the info!!! Angola is fantastic, you can get 370 for a 100$ clean note at the moment on the back market, no joke! it makes it super cheap.

Just came down the west coast through Angola and thinking of riding back to DRC.

First two weeks in Angola now and loving it.

Now in Luanda... the exchange rate on black market is now 580Kwanza/dollar for a 100$ note! That makes it even cheaper!

Good news !

A few years back I've been turned down without even having a look at my application. Hopefully they're relaxing the rules bit by bit and maybe one day Angola won't be harder to get into than, say, Mozambique.

30 days shoud allow for plenty of riding around, so send us some pics !

Kongkoru: DRC is out of this world, do it and you won't regret it.

Visa

This Embassy is crap....they turned me away !!! but I just screamed at them !!!!:taz: they all come running & said they would make a call....I got a transit visa, within 3 days. A French cyclist didn't yell loud enough & now has to ride his pushy the Lubumbashi route....!:(
It really is just don't take NO for an answer & they will give in.

Cheers

Got my Angola visa (30 days, extendable once) in 24 hours in Windhoek a month or so ago - they first wanted to turn me away as had no Namibian residency but once I explained in my very bad Portanhol that I was on a long-term trip and showed them all the stamps in my passport there was no issues. In fact I got invited into the back room and served tea and biscuits while I filled the form in!

Guess it just goes to show it who happens to be behind the counter on the day you walk in...!

That's awesome. What documents did you have with you. I'm a resident of Canada but don't hold Canadian nationality and am trying to decide I've I should take the chance of getting it in Namibia or in Canada.

Angola

Be careful in Windhoek, they had a new Consulate start & isn't as easy going as the last one (started the week I applied)

Cheers

Angola visa

We got our visas there a month or so ago...was not the easiest in the world but actually much easier than we had anticipated.

Also recommend getting your drc and rc visas here as super easy.

By the way we have been forced to ship us and vehicle from Libreville Gabon to cotonou Benin as completely and utterly been denied Nigeria visas. Havemet other travellers with same problems in the past couple of weeks. We will sail on Wednesday hopefully.

Would recommend trying for your Nigeria visa in Brazzaville rather than Gabon or Cameroon as here they are not budgeing!!

Anyone else in Gabon at the moment?

Safe travels

Danny

Sorry for late reply - still on the road! I gave them an invitation letter, copies of Alvara and ID of person inviting me, booking.com hotel booking in Luanda (free cancellation!) and copies of passport. I also had an employment letter from my company (self-employed so an easy one!) and insurance for car etc but not required in the end.

Danny, I was just in Gabon but now driven through Cameroon and Nigeria to Togo. Whereabouts have you gotten to?
