hi,
that was in Dec, 2008 I travelled alone around Africa by my Africa Twin, so that time the visa for Angola was obtained by me in Matadi (DRC). Now I'm going to do this way again and an information about borders and visas needs to be refreshed. Has anybody ever had a visa for Angola in a third african country? Let me know about your experience, please. Thanks.

Friends of ours just got denied Angola visa in Rundu and Oshakati, In both places referred to Windhoek, which is (in)famous for denying visa to non-residents...

how is the other direction? Abuja, Yaounde, Brazzaville, Kinshasa???

Hey! When are you going to do this trip? I'm heading to Capetown, but I'm not in a hurry at all so maybe I can renew info somewhere close to new year.

P. S. There is some backup plan, I'm not sure about it and it works only for russians. PM me if you need info.

bicyclists are always not in a hurry)) where are you pedaling now, mate? I'll start in Dec, so it takes me 1.5 month to reach central Africa. Just let me know how do you do with a visas and what is russian backup plan do you mean? And from my side you can get some information also. I crossed Africa around by bike 8 years before, so I know some tricks there, but even in Africa a things are changing. keep in touch!

From what I have learned recently the most foolproof way of getting an Angolan visa is to apply in your home country. In the UK I am told it is valid for 60 days - two months - then you have 30 days in the country. Don't know about Russia.
Anything on the road with be a 3-5 day transit but have not heard on the HUBB of these being issued recently. For me 2 months UK to Angola border would be a good pace.

On my 2012 trip down I picked up a one month tourist visa in Accra that was valid for three months, took about three weeks for them to arrange as it had to be referred back to Luanda so kicked my heels back on Korobite beach while I waited. Although a bit of a faff in terms of paperwork/ photos/ bank statements/ proof of insurance/ money/ vacination cards/ vehicle docs etc the embassy staff, contrary to what you often read on here, were helpful and polite.

We did around Africa and I just came home. We got our transit visa in Dolise, Congo. Was not too easy and super expensive. But this was only a transit, 5 days. So you might wanna get a bit longer one, right? ;)
We met this commercial truck with people all around the world on it. They have get their visas (nigeria, angola, drc) in Accra, Ghana. They have done this many years and said it is easiest way. Also our friend got visa to Angola this year from Accra without too much hassle.

I just got my Angola visa in Accra. Here are the details:

30-day single-entry tourist visa. Valid for two months from date of issue. $160 for 8-day processing time. However, I think you could probably pick this up on a Friday if you drop it off early in the week. That's the vibe I got from the officer working there when they were dealing with other applicants, and other travelers reported being able to pick it up early. There's also a 2-day option for $320.

We needed the following:

-Copy of vehicle registration

-Copy of your Ghana visa and entry stamp (stamped on the visa)

-Copy of Yellow fever

-Copy of drivers license (intl license not requested)

-A typed and signed letter explaining your reason for visiting along with an itinerary and entry/exit dates (they won't hold you to those dates though). Must also be translated into Portuguese. They offer a translation service for 40 cedis (10usd).

-Bank statement. Two of us applied using printouts that showed 10k USD and 3k USD. So somewhere in that range should be sufficient. We just used the bank's online "summary pages" just showing the amount in each account which you can easily edit.

-Hotel reservation in Luanda for a week. Just one booking.com reservation.

-Passport copy

-3 photos

-copy of carnet was given by one of us but not requested.

-easy visa form you can fill out at the office.

It's open between 9 and 12 mon-weds, possibly thurs-fri too, although you may only be able to apply for visas mon-weds.

You can also call them up and ask what's required. Their number is listed on google and they were very helpful over the phone.

The lady was pretty nice as customs officers go. Say "hola" and "obrigado" (thank you) to build some rapport.

Yep, one American and one Brit. I don't think they discriminate on price (like Nigeria does) because I was quoted that price on the phone before they knew which passports we held.

Same here, we also managed to get our Angola visas in Accra with the same documents as bbevan. Applied on Monday 9.30 and picked it up today (Thursday same week) :thumbup1:
We even got a multiple entry visa for the same fee of 160usd which is awesome as it allows us to avoid the Kinshasa ferry ;) :D
Note however that the embassy will be closed from 22.12.-04.01. for Christmas!
