Air shipping costs from West Africa to Europe?
 

Hi all,

I'm planning a Europe to West Africa (and maybe further) trip. At the moment I'm deciding what bike to bring- a cheap, "disposable" bike that I'd attempt to sell or else abandon, or a better bike that I'd then ship back to Europe to use on subsequent trips (seems preferable now).

One consideration is clearly the cost of shipping/airfreighting the bike back to Europe- does anyone have any experience with that? The most recent entry in the shipping database from Africa -> Europe was in 2011, and that was not encouraging ($3000 plus a bunch of fees). Older entries seem more palatable (~$1000 for air freight).

Any figures you may have heard would be appreciated! Thank you.
