Travel insurance: World Nomad feedback?

Hi,
I would like to know if someone has actually used World Nomad? They seem very cheap but are they good in case of need?
Has anyone made a claim and can provide feedback on standard of service, payback etc...?
Any feedback on thiz would be great!

I've no idea what they are like, but they dont seem to cover UK citizens for anywhere other than NZ and Austrailia.

(edit)
Strange, once you select the UK as your county of residence they still give you the option for worldwide. I've no idea - but they look good enough for me and my trip :)

maria41 19 Apr 2006 16:15

Ho Little Joe you're right! It seems they cover "World wide " for non Australia/NZ... citizens but only if you intend to go via Australia and/or NZ during your trip! Ghaaaa!

I have sent them an email to clarify, as they look pretty good and they are recommended here!

LittleJoe 19 Apr 2006 16:37

i know, but of a bugger eh? what if you "plan" to go but never make it?

wink, wink, nudge, nudge

maria41 19 Apr 2006 16:43

Absolutely! How could they control/check that?!!!
I thought of that as well!! Anyway, I will post their reply here.

maria41 19 Apr 2006 16:53

Ok I spoke with one of their adviser : you can buy a world wide insurance policy as a UK citizen but only if part of your trip includes NZ or Autralia and they will ask a prove of your "intend" like copy of plane ticket! =:(

LittleJoe 19 Apr 2006 17:26

well if you have the money how about a fully refundable plane ticket?

I don't think I'll waste my time (and money!) with Worldnomad... back to square one. I'll have a look at the insurance page here and will ask for few quotes! SUrely someone will insure UK residents who do not intend to go to Australia!

Where are you off to Maria?

After a very long (and annoying) research on travel insurance I've found this:

http://ibe.statravel.co.uk/AniteXmlGateway.aspx

You have to get the premier policy though as it's the only one that covers "motorcycling touring". I DID search every single insurer from the link here in the HU as well as loads of posts on the UKGSer.

I also checked with STA if they understand what "motorcycling touring" means and got an e-mail back from them confirming it.

Just my 2p. :)

Fernando

p.s. - The link should work, but if it doesn't go for www.statravel.co.uk and look for travel insurance.

Fernando! Thanks. I actually contacted 9 insurances this morning (not too busy at work !) and sent my findings to Grant/Susan so that they can update the "Health Insurance" bit in this website.
I'm off to Morocco this year and then planning 8 to 10 months trip around South America early next year (can't wait! I 'm dying to go!).
Anyone interested I can publish my findings in this thread if there is any interest although better if it is updated in right area.

I called statravel for a quote, their "Premier" insurance includes motorcycle touring indeed. To give you an idea, they quoted me £28pp for 3 weeks in Morocco and £309 for 10 months in south america.... pretty good!
cheers,

Maria

travel insurance

Hi Maria, have you tried navigator travel? if you google it I think it's the first link that comes up. I haven't used them but was recommended them by lois pryce. She used them for her Alaska to Patagonia trip.

Christine

Hi Christine!
Yes I had a quote from Navigator and also from hbinsurance, campbell Irvine, Trailfinders and worldwideinsure. all of them seem ok without specific restrictions.
Navigator seems to have decents pricing as well!

Cheers,

Maria

Maria

Any and all details you have the time to add to this thread would be great -- if it saves the rest of us making some of those nine calls, we all have more time to check out the rest of the HUBB!

Mike, I sent all my findings to Grant and he is going to update the section "travel insurance". In the meantime I will insert a new thread called "Travel insurance for UK residents" where I will put all websites addresses and findings to help you guys.
Cheers,
Maria

this one worried me as i had been intending to go to NZ and OZ, but with no proof of intent to do so, and (possibly) a good couple of years into the trip... and had been planning to use world nomads.

Still am. I emailed them, and they replied saying they need no proof of intent for your plans, and the only place i wouldn't be covered (with no proof) was the UK itself (am a UK citizen).

So it looks as if they have my buisness - although no one has actually claimed to have needed them yet??

Dan
