NHS works sometimes!

Pleasant surprise,

just had a call from the travel nurse about my forthcoming trip to Vietnam,

I was dreading the cost of all the jabs, but according to her, I get
Tetanus, diphtheria, polio, typhoid, hep A and B all for free, and only have to pay for Malaria tabs?

Might see if I can get Rabies and Japanese Encephalitis done to, as the info seems to say these might be needed. Better to be over covered than under covered? Can't see Jap Ence on their price list so might have to find another travel clinic.

Free is good!

I take it you're in Scotland?

Not sure if things have changed but I got free jabs in London in 2005. Depended on the GP surgery at that time though, mine were free and a friend registered at a different surgery had to pay when he was going on a trip.

I also got those same NHS jabs for free .. three months ago, from my GP's surgery down in Cornwall.

I had to buy the Rabies shot though, so I didn't bother with that one, as the cost was way over £100. Likewise, Malaria tabs, which I bought from a local high street pharmacy.

Yeh, we've just had the same ones done - all for free. Have to make another appointment for the rest but they're quite costly so will be spacing those out. At our docs, rabies - £160 and Jap E - £210

The nurse who's doing our jabs let us see a price comparison that another patient had done for malaria tablets (malarone) and there was quite a difference for a two week course so definitely worth shopping around with your perscription. The cheapest up here is Superdrug - I didn't even know they did perscriptions!

in Cambridgeshire.

Cool! Yep, got the Rabies and Jap E prices, 3x£40 for rabies, and 2x£80 for the latter, so not as bad all in all. Surprised as a friend can't even get the same GP practice to freeze treat her feet warts without the GP insisting that she pays for them to do it on the private.

These shots will be a christmas pressie to myself. Oh well! Better hurry before they change their mind.

Debz, hows the planning going and when are you off?
