Getting my shots

Going to Mexico, Central, and South America. August 05 -March 06. Going to the University of Washington Travel clinic very soon and would appreciate tips on what shots to take and what not to take. Dont want to get talked into to much by the Doc doing there job telling me to take everything. Thanks so much. Paul

I would get a tetnus shot. Have it recorded in the WHO (yellow booklet)that you can carry in your passport. No shots are required where you are going. Tetnus can be contracted anywhere. It's a good shot to keep current.

Before I left they punctured me, many, many times,
for immunity from nasty things with names that will not rhyme.
There were boosters for diseases where a second stab was needed,
I don't like pain and did complain, but finally conceded.

Rabies, Hepatitis, both flavours A & B,
Tetanus, Yellow Fever, and Meningitis C.
Encephalitis, Typhus, 'Please roll up your shirt',
then the next thing they would always say was, 'This wont really hurt'.

Doxycycline for malaria is coursing through my veins,
and aspirin when I crash the bike to ease the aches and pains.
There's a cocktail made of chemicals, mixed up with my blood.
I'm immunised from everything, except for beer called 'Bud'.

Caffeine in the morning, another spray of deet,
a squirt of stuff goes in my boots to kill the smell of feet.
Anti-histamine for bug bites, to stop their nasty itch,
then I'm set to face the day, without a health based hitch.
