Any Type ! Diabetics Out There

My wife and I are new to the forum. We are both interested and excited about a RTW journey and exploration. The major barrier I am personally encountering is that I am a Type 1 Diabetic on an Insulin Pump (well controlled with no complications after 40 years on diabetes).

Looking for some advice, are there diabetics out there? How do you deal with obtaining RX insulin, etc? Do you keep health insurance? How? Do you just buy your supplies cash -out-the-door for a year and head down the road?

Would great appreciate your guidance and experiences. Thank you all in advance.

I don't have diabetes, but I have medication that's need to be taken everyday. Usually I ask for my medication for up to 6 months. Then I have medication sent to me for the remainder 6 other months. I will never travel in a country who prohibite the medication my medical condition requires.

I would say talk with your doctor, and your pharmacist. Just say straight foward what you want to do and how your case could be best taken care.

As for travel medical travel insurance, I don't qualify. Too old. So it's an out of wallet medicare.

Not a diabetic but would echo earlier advice to check with your doctors and pharmacist back home. My brother-in-law had to travel for an extended amount of time and he had to bring more than enough supply of medicines -- not a bad idea, I suppose.
