3 Es problem
There has been quite a bit of discussion about Malaria recently but here is a rarer (fortunately!) problem; the 3 Es problem is Eastern Equine Enchephelitis; a guy on vacation in the USA has got it:-
BBC NEWS | Scotland | Edinburgh, East and Fife | Man in coma after mosquito bite Personally, I've never heard of this, and it seems the only thing that can be done for humans is to prevent it in the first place. Note, that the BBC report mentions Spain within their text, without explaining why. Here's some facts:- CDC Fact Sheet: Eastern Equine Encephalitis - CDC Division of Vector-Borne Infectious Diseases (DVBID) And there are a load more sources of information here:- Eastern Equine Encephalitis - Ask.com UK Web Search Cover up and use insect repellent seems to be the common advice. |
I was just going to post on the same BBC article, prayers go out to his family.

I think the reference to Spain is because we have so many mozzies here - Malaria was declared officially eradicated in 1964.
The Tiger Mosquito was known to invade the Valencian region last summer. In Asian countries it can spread Dengue Fever, Encephalitis and Yellow Fever, but it is not currently thought that these diseases will spread in Spain. |
Mozzies!
