Wow, Medjet no longer covers Central and South America for new policies!

Hey guys, did any of you see the new post in the Staying Healthy section. Damn, this new change is too bad. They only cover Mexico, the U.S. and Canada now.

Just wanting to make sure I haven't confused anyone with my post about Medjet... as long as you can prove you are resident in US, Canada or Mexico (so I assume if you keep an address in these countries should suffice???) then you can get a membership that will cover you anywhere in world. Previously Medjet were providing membership for UK residents though from what I was told they no longer will.

That is good news to hear, but that stinks that they will not cover other countries.

Well after my experience with them I would not buy it anyway. First they said they would pay to fly my wife home but then they never came though with anything. We were not sure that she would qualify so we had made arangements to come back on our own. I paid like $1300 per ticket which was not refundable. Then they got ahold of us and said they would fly her home. I just asked for a partial payment of the ticket as I knew they could get a better deal than I had. They would not pay me $300 on it. That was all I wanted. Nice guys but do not get between them and a buck I guess. If they can find a way out of paying they sure seem to find it.

That does stink that they would not even contribute $300 to your $1300 plane ticket, but I think MedJet is still a bargain and most useful for life threatening injuries where you really need someone that can arrange everything for you and get you out of the country in a heartbeat.

There's 'travel assist network' who have posted on this site, I contacted them and they said not only do they cover motorcyclists but they'll also pay for your motorcycle to be returned as well. Cost per year is $235usd, pretty good in my opinion.

Medjet Assist did a great job for me

I broke my ankle/leg in southern Baja last January and I was treated very well by MedJet Assist.

I was not actually hospitalized since there were no hospitals nearby that could work on my leg. "No fix here, must go San Diego".

I was able to make my way around enough to take a comercial flight which they arranged and paid for for both me and my wife.

They also arranged and paid for shipping my bike right back to my door in Canada.

I know a couple of others who have have similar success with MedJet Assist. I would highly recommend them.

I was upset that they are the ones that made the determination if you qualify and we were waiting to hear from them all day about it. It takes a long time dealing with Dr. and hospitals in a foreign country where you do not speak the language. They finally made the determination that they would pay to fly my wife home on a commercial airline. Then to skip out on it and refuse to pay even 1/4 of the price of a ticket to me just did not seem fair. I dealt with them for several weeks and the decision was reviewed by everyone up to the President. I feel cheated by them as you can tell. I tend to be a pretty open person in dealing with things of this nature but when the chips finally are done and they make their bed then they need to sleep in it and people will hear my opinion of them. All I said was be sure to read the fine print. Fair and just do not seem to mean anything just read the fine print as that is what they seem to use to reverse the fact that they said they would pay to fly my wife home on a commercial airline.
